Self Portrait

8"x10" oil on canvas
This is my contribution to Michelle Burnett's Following the Masters blog. The current challenge is to do a self portrait, and since I haven't done one in many years, I thought that this was the perfect opportunity.

I really like this self-portrait Ed. Some how it shows me a different dimension of your personality than it is possible to convey via online photos of you. How I would articulate it is that through this portrait it feels like I've just met you in person!

Wonderful portrait Edward...I think I could pick you out in a crowd now!
Did you do it from a photo or mirror? Your intense look makes me think it was a mirror...regardless, great job!

This is great! I like the warmer tones you used, and how you let the canvas texture show through on the background. Love the loose brush strokes on the face, too.

What a handsome guy you are, Edward. You do look quite like an artist too with that intensity and deep-thinking gaze.

Great job, Edward! Did you use the Zorn palette? Love the warm tones and the way the light plays across your face! Congratulations!

Super self portrait! I love that you have half your face in shadow creating interest and dimension. Great work as always!

Good self-portrait, Edward, you have created an atmosphere between your face and the spectator in the style of Velázquez in the "Meninas".
Regards.
